Time off
In Cairns, we did the included excursion and had a hopeless guide, so our review would not have been favourable. Many others did the same tour and had excellent guides, giving very positive reviews. We actually learned about things we saw from other pax once back on the ship.
Passage to Eastern Europe
We were originally scheduled for Lyttleton, where we had a great private tour planned, but when they switched us to Akaroa, the 90 mins drive to Christchurch, just didn't make private tours viable. So we switched to ship tours, the included in the AM and punting on the Avon in PM. In 2015, Viking introduced its first award-winning ocean ship with the 930-guest Viking Star. Sister ship Viking Sea joined the fleet in 2016, along with Viking Sky and Viking Sun in 2017.

Olsen Cruise Lines is offering complimentary car parking to guests who book a 2024 sailing departing from Dover between June and August, according to a press release. Onboard, there is a welcome reception for solo travelers, a designated table in the buffet restaurant for those wishing to have company during meals, and a meeting point when the ship docks in ports. The ships feature a traditional layout with a focus on comfortable lounges and dining spaces over flashy attractions available on the newest resort ships.
